Southern Delicacy - Snow Cream
I scream, you scream, we all scream for….snow cream?
A few days ago, we got a record snow in our area of North Carolina. Snow days in the South are not complete without making this longstanding treasured treat.
Have you ever heard of it? Everyone has their own ways of making it, but one ingredient remains the same across the board - SNOW. The story goes, never use the first snow of the season, you mus use the second snow. Whatever you do, just don’t use the yellow snow!!!
This is how we fix our snow cream…
Start by collecting the snow, of course! Upon seeing the snow falling, I took my bowl and placed it on a flat open area outside.
Wait a few hours for the snow to collect…
(Some people collect the snow after it has fallen, like off of the top of a car hood, but we grew up with this method.)
Only two more ingredients are needed besides snow: sweetened condensed milk, and vanilla extract. Like I mentioned before, different people make this different ways. The most important thing is to measure with your heart. We used about 6 cups of snow, half of the condensed milk can, and a splash of vanilla. You can add to taste to your liking.
Give your 3 ingredients a good stir! (We specialize in simple recipes HEHE)
There you have it, snow cream! This taste very similar to the Chickfila ice dream they serve! We love it and know that you will too! Bookmark this to try the next time there’s snow falling!!!
