DIY Scented Pine-cones

Imagine…there’s a chill in the air, lamps lit, and a cozy smelling centerpiece to really set it off. The centerpiece? Your own homemade scented pinecones. Sure, you could buy some from Hobby Lobby….but this way is more fun! These will elevate any room of your home and have your guest asking “what’s that smell?”

Here’s how you’ll do it:

Start by collecting your pinecones. I have pine trees in my yard, so a short walk provided me with many! That’s another great thing about making these…it’s mostly free!

Next, you’ll want to get rid of any bugs hiding inside the cones. Arrange pinecones on a baking sheet. Preheat your oven to 200 degrees and bake them for around 30 minutes. Let cool.

Now, to scent them! Pinecones hold scents well because they’re very porous. This is where you can use creativity! Make them smell however you like. You could use cinnamon essential oils, vanilla, clove, whatever your fancy. I used a pumpkin chai oil from Dollar Tree!

Add your baked pinecones to a Ziploc bag and then add in your oil(s). I measured with my heart. Give the bag a good shake until they’re all well coated.

That’s it! I added mine to a festive Pyrex bowl and they’re ready to be displayed and give off a great fall scent! There are many other things you could do with pinecones…I’m sharing some of those ideas below!
