Field Trip - Shelby Corn Maze - Shelby, NC
I love corn mazes. I feel like I love them more than the average person. The crisp, cool weather, leaves falling, colors changing, I love it all. All of these seasonal changes give me the urge to get lost in a corn maze, so that’s exactly what I did. I was looking for something to do over the weekend that was autumn-themed, as it is that time of year. Then, I stumbled upon the Fall Festival at the Shelby Corn Maze. So, I took my family and had a great time!
Let’s talk about a fan favorite if you’re a local in the Gaston or Cleveland County area - The Shelby Corn Maze!
Upon arrival, they had the cutest decor and ample parking, which was great because there were A LOT of people. Admission to the farm is $16 per person ages 3 and up. This includes the corn maze (which is eight acres!), courtyard activities (there are many), the jumping pillow, hayride to the pumpkin patch, and 4 activity tickets! You can purchase tickets online in advance or at the door in person.
Once we entered, we walked around and took a look at all the activities they had on offer. There are over 40 attractions, some of which include rubber duck races, farmer paintball, the Barn of Confusion, a barrel train, a kiddie zipline, and apple blasters. These attractions require tickets; you receive 4 tickets at the door, but you will likely need to purchase additional tickets to experience them all. Tickets are 50 cents each.
After wandering around the courtyard, we decided it was time to take on the thing we came to do: THE. CORN. MAZE.
You had two options: the longer, more difficult one or the shorter, easier one (or both). Of course, we had to do the longer and more difficult one, I insisted. Luckily, they provide you with a map to help you avoid getting too lost…
Their maze this year was designed to celebrate their 25th anniversary!
After conquering the corn maze, we worked up a bit of an appetite, so we had to grab something to eat at their food vendors. They offered a variety of food options, including hot dogs, nachos, BBQ sandwiches, and BBQ nachos, among others. They also had delicious apple cider slushies and donuts! You could grab a snack at Big Al’s Snack Shack, Lou’s Creamery, or the Sweet Shop. I also had to stop by the lemonade stand and got a peach mango lemonade, it was SO good!!!
Once we finished eating, we took a ride on the tractor over to the pumpkin patch and flower field. It was such a fun ride, and we got to pick out our pumpkin to carve later that evening. You do have to pay for the pumpkin separately. They had other interactive games and perfect picture-taking spots on this side as well, so definitely don't forget to take the tractor ride when you go! It’s so cute!
This family-owned farm was purchased in 1999 and established as the Shelby Corn Maze in 2001 to help the owners earn some extra income and create a fun farm experience. I think they succeeded!
This is the perfect place to bring the family or just to go on a date with your loved one :)
